Problem

Our customer, one of the largest railroad operators in the world, had long used a portable water cart to fill locomotive batteries. The garden hose that was being used created numerous issues; it was a trip hazard, the hose constantly sprung leaks, and it was extremely difficult to store.

Solution

We redesigned the system using an air operated diaphragm pump and a spring retracted hose reel. The re-designed system has hit the mark on all of the customer’s hot buttons. They have had zero problems with leaks, storage is a breeze, and the director of safety is recommending reels for all hose storage applications.
