The follower plate is rigidly mounted to the bottom of the pump suction tube, and the pump assembly is mounted on an air operated elevator. When drum change over is necessary, simply push a vent valve to break the suction of the follower plate on the grease, elevate the pump out of the drum and keep it elevated using the air selector valve, roll in the new drum, and lower the pump. The pump never touches the ground and you avoid the oft-repeated problem of throwing out the follower plate with the empty drum. This is best practices and OSHA recommended in a busy shop.
